Thread: Rear hub fit issues ?

    Rear hub fit issues ?

Restoring rear suspension and all associated parts.
So on one side the hub pressed into bearing with a wood block on both the hub and on back side of the housing and my clamp centered in the wood blocks. Every twist to tighten moved the hub into the bearing with no issues and modest pressure, perfect fit. The other side would not budge at all. Tried freezing the hub for several hours...still no progress with same setup.
Both sides had new bearings and hubs were clean ?
Ready to knock out the bearing and do another bearing.
    Thoughts ?
    Thanks
    Frank

Either get the right tool or sand down the hub surface.

How difficult was it to fit the bearing?

The interference should only be a few tenths of a thou so it may be difficult to measure.

Is there sign of any damage to the hub?

Inspect the hub and measure its diameter in several places to check for irregularities, especially at the leading end. I doubt that your problem is with the bearing.
Use a lubricant on the hub and inner bearing surfaces.

Your clamp might not be capable of producing enough force for this.
Assuming that you're using a C-clamp, it's limited to the amount of torque it can accept, and the force it can produce depends on the size and pitch of the pressure screw.

Here is the Porsche tool to install the rear wheel hubs (pressure screw: M20 x 1.5mm)...
