Anyone have hands on experience with GL 350 S 350 Bluetec mertz?

SO I am down to the last two of my Passat TDI fleet cars. The recall is too good to pass up. They are basically paying off the loans and I m plus cash about 18K after it is done. Right? I don't want to give up the diesel power plants. Does anyone have hands on on the Mercedes s class and GL class Bluetecs? Reliability, fuel MPG, power? I am considering buying a couple as an alternative to the Passats. Anyone?

I'm in the same boat with a Jetta TDI. Love the car, but you almost can't pass up the buyback deal. I would also like to hear any thoughts on the Mercs. Although a new GTi might do the trick...:-)

Any of the Mercedes Bluetec diesels S class or GL's have problems with the DEF fluid heaters. 2k to repair, they have the engine oil cooler installed in the valley of the engine block. They all will leak/drip oil,I have seen repairs range from 3k-6k depending on parts.Intake manifolds and turbos also need to be replaced.

Have a friend with a Bluetec MB.
Drove it to Amelia Is., from Knoxville, TN. Three bruisers + luggage. 41.9 MPG at 76MPH (cruise set)
Issue...two months earlier the engine detonated at 77K miles. Rod through the block. Heard it's not the first one to do so...MB bought him a new heart, he had to pay the labor to have it installed.
    Just sayin'...

WHich Model does he have? I am wondering what the GL and S class get for MPG?
I wonder are they using the same 3.0 ltr that goes into the sprinters?

Who can resist the buyback deal? I am turning in a 2013 Passat TDI with 129,000 and a 2015 same with 58,000 miles. Getting the notes paid off and walking with 18,000$$$$
It is a no brainer. I love the cars and I am most certainly going to miss all that power and 44 MPG averages but man. BTW the Passats have issues with the Blue Def heaters. My 2013 just threw a check light for this issue. It also Knarfed a Turbo at 121,000 (warranteed to 120,000) and VW would not honor the warranty. I am sure they are realing with the buy backs. I think it is time to move on for a while.
