Hi all,
I'm rebuilding door strikers of my 2.4 T (MY 73.5), internal plastic toes are broken.
I'd like to plate them ... but I can't tell if they were metallic (white) or sodium dichromate (yellow) plated.
Can anyone help please ?

fizeus,
I just went through this, and Tom (sithot) will have more to say, however I just bought a striker plate from Stoddard's at the Lit Fair/Swap weekend. I was told that up to '68 was 'silver' and after was 'gold'. I took it over to John Esposito's to see what he thought of it... John said "Wow they finally made a 'good one' (with the outer plate as thicker than inner like the factory's) he then said why did you get a 'gold' one you have a '73, they're supposed to be 'silver'... sure enough when I compare it to the original other side it was in fact 'silver'. Staddard does offer both and the same quality.
I have since taken some oven cleaner to my 'new gold' striker and made it pretty much 'silver'...
... and so it goes
I'd like to hear from others...
BTW- After reviewing Dave Conklin's wonderful documentation of the '700 mile '70S' it shows it was 'silver'

All 73 cars I have had, which I am all sure had original door strikers, were silver. Bolts are gold I believe

Fairly certain they were silver on '69 cars to match the rest of the hardware like the latches.
Agree! Silver on my original "bought from first owner" 1972 S.
Rebuilding your door latches is easy now that the plastic pieces are available for the LWB cars.
Drive out the two smaller pins with a punch.
Swivel the thicker outer plate - tap with large flat punch. Remove the old crumbly plastic buffers.
Press fit the new ones. Reverse procedure and replace pins. Done!

Who is selling the plastic pieces?
kiwi911, thank you for great post ... I think it 'll be easier now!Rebuilding your door latches is easy now that the plastic pieces are available
Did you plated yours or leaved with original patina ?
from my research there are two sellers.
You can find the on Stoddard: item SIC-531-701-31 (31$ each) (look at http://www.stoddard.com/90153170131-sic.html)
You can also find them from TMP.
I bought mine TMPs from ebay because of Stoddard shipping costs to italy (about 50$)

Same stuff different brand :-)
If you plan to order from Stoddard or ebay don't forget to also get a TripleSquare M8 bit (also called XZN) to unscrew the retaining bolt: do not use torx or you 'll strip 'em!!!

Hi Fizeus,
These are not my originals - Jim at EASY gave me a pair for free to experiment on, because at first sight I thought I'd have to drill out the rivets - now realise that they are pressed in pins. When I do mine I'll just clean them up, my car is a very nice (2 owners including me) driver, so I like to patina.
Hi LiveFromNY,
All the regular suspects have them - Sierra Madre Collection, Pelican Parts as well.
Cheers

I bought one from Porsche a few years back and it was black. My Bad.
Can that be turned into a silver one with oven cleaner?
