Thread: Is this normal?

    Is this normal?

One of my rear axle struts is missing a cap. Is this normal? Can a cap be purchased?

My car is a 1968 911 USA model

I have a feeling that it did not come that way from the factory. I don't see a part number for that. I did see a part for cap on the front control arms. I believe it is part # 900-040-008-01 would this fit on the rear?

That's just a large "Freeze plug." Yes, same type in front A arms, but wrong size. They are dished so that when they are struck in the center they expand for a tight fit. Engine builder suppliers, maybe McMaster might have them. You will probably have to buy oversize and have someone turn them down in a lathe.

People drill them out or pull them off to access the torsion bar which can get rusted tight. I've also seen people put a rubber cap over the end.
