The early stainless mufflers were double wrapped, so look for 4 layers at the seam. It's hard to see sometimes.
I have this photo from a car I had a long time ago. If I remember correctly, it was Bischoff.
yes that is the same muffler# 911 111 025 00 I have. the number next to the part number on this example is 44 00. Date code? which date? these are unique to the 1972 and 73 cars. not only because they are stainless but the bend of the exhaust tip changed for the 1974 cars as the back bumper changed design and are pointed down and does not look correct for pre 73 cars. 72 and 73 cars all have stainless mufflers or some had the painted mufflers?

What is the standard finish for 72/73 car mufflers? Painted like earlier car or stainless?

AFAIK stock 72-73 mufflers were Leistritz brand painted steel.
