    1968 restoration, antenna placement

I'm in the process of restoring a 1968 911 sportomatic, the antenna is currently on the right fender, but I believe it should be on the left fender. I have seen pictures on the net with the antenna on either side. Wondering if anyone can clarify this for me. Also US models had reflectors in the front and back fenders. Any opinion as to whether I should put these back in or just leave them out.

    Thanks

Electric antenna had to be on the right side due to gas fill location on the left. Usual placement for the more compact manual antenna was on the left, but they could be ordered (Nr. 9432) for right side installation. Check your documentation.

Even though I dislike their appearance, if I were doing a '68 I would leave the reflectors in place as they were a one-year only item and are a conversation piece. How original do you want to be?

My manual antenna is on the left, and +1 on keeping the side reflectors on your '68... On my US-delivered '68 911L I kept the side markers on as original, although my desire for period-correct ended at the smog pump which I pulled off (but have kept to be able to put it back on at some point later!)

seems like there is a trend here.

i insisted on keeping the side reflectors. replacement fenders have to be drilled for '68 reflectors, but they are unique to '68 and i wanted to keep them. (obviously, just be careful drilling the holes.)

also, looks like you are good on the passenger side antenna. f i recall the research, i agree with "LivefromNY," that the power antenna was originally placed on the passenger side, and also with "ejboyd5" that the manual antenna could also be ordered for the passenger side.

I have a power antenna on the passenger side, I assume placed at dealer with nice Becker radio. Neither is on the COA.
Alas, my reflectors disappeared several PO's before.

Thanks for the reply. I think I will put the reflector back on.
