Straightening warped aluminum valve and chain covers

    Hi,

What is the preferred way to straighten warped alu intake and chain covers? Mine are pretty bend. I was thinking of torquing them with some shims to get the worst bends out and after that putting them on the mill.

    Thanks,

    JK

There's a post on here by Paul Abbott (1quickS), he described milling a little more material from the centre of the valve covers than from the edges, thereby creating a spring effect where torquing down the middle would pull the ends down hard also.

Once the covers are flat, mostly the lowers I use the thin gaskets with the silicone bead. The covers don't warp like they do with the thick black gaskets. G.Led
