Thoughts on how to repair a rusted rear sunroof drain tube?

I'm in the process of restoring a 69 sunroof coupe. The rear sunroof drain tube was rusted through near the exit and we are debating ways to repair this to ensure no leaks. The parcel shelf is currently out of the car, as it was rusted, and the rear quarters are removed. I don't think wrapping this with a plastic tube will work, as the area will be subjected to intense heat when the shelf and quarters are replaced, but the drain tube doesn't seem to be of a heavy enough gauge (especially in the areas which are suffering from damage) to withstand brazing or welding. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Weld, braze or panel bond a new tube.
