Thread: Driving a 67S targa across the country?

  1. #1

Driving a 67S targa across the country?

I was thinking about driving a 67S targa across the country, coast to coast, but was wondering whether I would have any security issues parking at hotels, etc.

I hate to worry about such things, but has anyone had any experience?

I assume it would be a fun trip; perhaps I would reconsider on the long stretches?

I have never had a problem either. I've done coast to coast in a 912. Portland to Denver in a 911. Chicago to SF in a 58 speedster. Blah Blah ! The only common denominator, just in case, was a sleeping bag so I would not leave the car broken down somewhere. Never happened. I towed my 67S home form SF to Jackson, WY with an overnight in Elko, NV no problems at the hotel either. Open UHaul trailer. Bring basic tools and replacement parts and you should be good. It is exciting, especially solo.

I think that most people would have absolutely no idea what they are looking at. And thieves would be scouting out Honda's, Subaru's and 3 Series etc.
Bring hearing protection, head wear, sunblock and a MP3.
    Should be a fabulous adventure
Please photo document so hat others can live vicariousy

Do it. Drove every step from Texas to Canada and back thru the mountains... as much as possible in 2007. 5000 round trip miles. Not a single problem. In a 61 S-90.

On my bucket list is home in Texas to Alaska.....in a 356.

The route for me would depend on the time of year. With no time frame for the trip and scenic being the priority I would do this to stay out of the heat if mid summer. 15 to 395, north to 50. 50 to Ely then north to 80. 80 to Evanston then north to Teton and Yellowstone NPs. East through the Big Horns to the Black Hills. From there put the hammer down and beat it to Sault Ste Marie, cross into Canada and take Canada 1. Go to Montreal and head south to pick up 93 through the White Mts. of New Hampshire then on in to Boston. Definitely not the fastest but very scenic. Also a little higher and more north for cooler air. If you do go north do not miss the most beautiful mountain road in America. The Beartooth Highway. A local Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse!

Sorry to interrupt this great thread. As previously stated in a prior thread, I'm trying to establish how many 67 Targas still out there and document their existence. Any chance you could send me a picture and the VIN via a PM. Don't want any other info. Happy to send you a list of identified '67s when complete or near complete. Back to cross country travel and have a good time.

The northern route is prettier and much more interesting. Driving through New Mexico and Texas is endless and gets old very quickly.
