    Arrow Pricing help 72T

Hoping to get some assistance from the collective wisdom here. Truly enjoy the build threads, unobtanium items that pop up, and the passion for the cars.

A new acquaintance of mine, seeing the Porsche memorabilia and some parts in display in the garage, mentioned he knew a guy who has a car that hasn't moved in a long time. Says he thinks it is a 72. I say have always wanted one as it is the year i was born. So I get the location and head over a few days later.

See the car and meet the owner after knocking on door in the back of the house. Nice guy for sure and has a lot of memories invested in the car. He is kind enough to let me dig around the car.

The good is that nearly everything is there and he said it was all original. The bad is that it is clearly pretty rusty. The floor pans appear to be all there although the front one needs replacement for sure. Front passenger quarter has a nice hole and the rear decklid is bad with rust holes. While now it is red this Reuters chassis started out as ivory (not light ivory) 132 9 1. Still has the mfi which is good. He claims it was rebuilt 30k miles ago but the car has sat many years. Interior is not the worst but not the best either. In essence it needs a full going through but if a kardex comes back all matching may be worth it.

Question is what is a reasonable price for this car in this market?

How much for it or How much you want to spend on it ??.
Im not a natural pessimist but at least the plug leads look newish.
A possible 72 spares car with the MFI and bit n bobs.

Will certainly take some money and time to bring it back to life properly. Question is what is a fair offer to buy the car as it sits now?

I agree with that statement. In that condition, you will most likely find WAY more problems once taken apart. With that rust showing, there is probably a lot more hidden. It will cost 100K - 150K to restore. I don't think it could be patched up and made into a driver as it will need fully stripped to do the body repairs and then it snowballs into a restoration.

If you want to do a restoration, get it as cheap as you can. If you want a driver, I would pass and spend more to find one in running / driving condition.

Value now, 10 - 15K as it sits.

+1 on this opinion for all the reasons stated. I completed a full nut and bolt restoration on a 73-S and finishing one now on my 70-S. The 70-S was certainly an excellent driver quality car, running and driving just fine, but even with that condition as a starting point it has been several thousand hours and tons of money to bring it to the next (concours) level. Remember too, it is a 'T' and therefore you can be upside down value wise even quicker depending on your end game.

If you buy it, I would be interested in the brown dash trim and radio faceplate.
    Good luck

    IMO . . .

. . . 'reasonable' price = (price of this kinda vehicle in the condition that you would like to have it in) - (cost of bringing this vehicle to that condition)
