    Targa Door Chrome Trim ID

    Hi All,

My '70 Targa project came with 3 sets of trim (chrome and black) for the top of the door. All of it was in boxes and none of it was attached and the entire doors were completely disassembled. The picture below shows all the trim that came with the project. The chrome ones are heavy and the black anodized/painted ones are lighter and appear to be made of alum.

The two chrome sets appear to be identical, just the chrome is much better on one set.

Can anyone ID from this picture if the Chrome ones are correct for a '70 targa? I put one on my door and it covers the entire door top. According to the parts manual, the coupes and Targas have different door trim, but I don't know how to tell the difference. A coupe has a full window frame, but the targas do not, but I don't know how this affects the trim. My project came with a mix of coupe and targa parts, so I'm just trying to figure out if anything i have is correct.

    Thanks in advance.

    Dennis

I found a picture of a 1970 Targa and there appears to be a small chrome piece at the rear of the door top. The attached photo has it circled in red. I don't see this piece in the parts book. Can the Targa owners please confirm if this piece exists or not? Also, any leads on where I can get a set?

If you're missing those then your door glass is rattling around. What you're seeing is the top of the rear channel for the glass.

Should be very easy to find from one of the purveyors who sell used parts here. But you'll probably need to have them re-chromed.

I have a 70 targa. That piece does exist and is on my targa. It is the top of the channel that the window travels in on the rear of the door. The interior, top of the door trim piece that the lock button goes thru abuts up to it at the rear of the door.

    Thanks Guys.

Does it attach to the rear channel, or is it the rear channel?

    It's the rear channel.

Thanks. Hmmm - I did not see those pieces in the boxes. I'll do some hunting today.

Do the chrome pieces in my originsl pic above look correct for a 70 targa? What is the difference between coupe and targa door top trim?

Pic that you posted is spot on for your car.

Look at a coupe vs. Targa and you'll see the difference in a NY minute.

Coupe "rear channel" is part of the entire frame.

    Thanks Guys.

I now understand how the small chrome piece is attached to the rear window channel frame. What about my original question that I don't think was answered. Does one of the pairs of door tops in my original picture look correct for a '70 targa? They seem to match that of the chrome ddor top in Tangerine 911 photo I posted.

    Thanks.
