    Performance Air Filter

    Hello,

I have a standard air box, the type which has a metal lip which sits in a groove on the filter housings.
I'm running the standard cheap cylindrical filter. Is there a better quality high performance filter that improves the acceleration and performance to my car?

    Any manufacturers better than others?

    Thanks lee

I don't really think you'll find any performance gain using any trick filter elements assuming your element isn't clogged. Do timed acceleration tests with and without air filter housing and see if any difference is noted.

I'm primarily concerned about keeping dirt particles out of my very expensive to rebuld engine...

Just stick to the paper filters and change them a bit more often

FYI the 6.3 liter Mercedes uses the same filter element, just the flow is reversed.

There are very few actual facts about are filters. 'The biggest scam is K&N. They won't even tell the size of microns they trap. K&N just says 'Trust US'

    SURE!

You should try to use an air filter that traps particles over 10 microns. A grain of sand is roughly 50 microns. BMC, who builds a lot of the air filters used in F1, claims they have filters that can trap 7-micron debris and still flow efficiently. Most of the air filter manufacturers though are very reluctant to share this information. K&N told me that it was proprietary information and they were not about to tell me what micron levels their filters trapped.

They all use standard measurement - they just won't share the information.
