    Heat paint, boot questions

I have questions for the board I hope someone has info on.

    1) I am repainting the heater boxes and need a source for the brownish/red hi temp paint used by the factory. Wurth makes heat paint but only sold in black(in the U.S.) The VHT header paint I have now is too reddish.

    2) I need a source for the insulator rubber boots which came off the alternator cables, pictured next to box.

Those don't get hot enough to need high heat paint. The paint match should be your only concern. Have you tried the dealer for cable boots.

Those heater valves originally are the identical color to the old Koni orange......I had to have my paint shop do a color match off an original piece. Simplest and cheapest....base coated with a red oxide primer and then clear coat..pretty close, and heat on those is not an issue.

The boot is available as a 356 "boot kit" from Stoddard/NLA.

Thanks for the info on the paint and the steer on the boot kit. I found the boots on a VW site, Wolfgang International, at a reasonable price but not alas the shipping. My Koni color appears redder but I will look into the red oxide paint. I appreciate the inputs.

There's the "new" Koni orange which is a bright red/orange...and the "old" original Koni orange which is a brownish orange..as on the heater valve. If you hold an old original Koni next to an original heater valve they're virtually identical. One issue that gets lost is time compression......even the new Konis are "old"enough and the originals are so old and now rare...no one has seen the original brown orange!

Thanks Mark, I must have the newer Koni color, which as you say is more of a red/orange. Red oxide is the ticket I can confirm. Thanks for the tip.Name: P1040917.jpg
