Thread: Has anyone else sold their 911 to fund a business?

Has anyone else sold their 911 to fund a business?

I've been in denial that this is a possibility for me the last few months. I got Annie as a basket case around 9 years ago after Early S Man - Warren passed on. His sister wanted more than anything else for Annie to get put back together as Warren would have wanted.

After years of uncovering secrets and gathering tons of new parts, and with the help of a lot of friends and a lot of time under Ed Mayo's careful eye and hands, she was finally roadworthy in 2016. She made the 800 mile round trip the 2016 Hill Country roundup and I was smiling ear to ear. I thought she'd be with me until I couldn't drive any more.

Fast forward to today. My GF and I own a small business. It's doing well and we need to expand to a second location which will will run about $200K for the build out and equipment. We could fund it out of pocket which would run cash reserves too low for my liking. I'm not interested in taking on debt either. As much as it gives me a knot in my stomach to think about it, I'm considering letting her go to fund the new store.

Have any of you been here before?

I sold my early '65 911 about ten years ago start my own shop and regret it every time I see one. Remember money comes and goes but special cars don't come around very often.

+1... if there's another way to fund the business, I'd go that route... money is a commodity, early 911s are not...

    Hello
It is with a mixed heart that I respond. YES I have been there before twice..
However when I look at the monies generated, the jobs created, I'm fine with the choice..
Cars come and go, but work and family should be placed beyond motoring pleasure... Also through the success of the monies generated, I bought another 'better' car

    Hope this helps

If you have the cash for the buildout, surely you have the credit to finance the buildout or Have the landlord fund it and amortize it over the term of the lease? Other peoples money is the only way to go. Do not spend your cash/equity reserves. My two cents

Thanks for the responses. There are some other parts to the story. I'm 60 and we have to get this biz built and the goal is to sell it off in 5 years and retire. With that said, I have a full time corp gig (corp real estate) and spend a lot of hours with the business. Annie literally never leaves the garage as there is no time in the budget for fun drives. It is comfortable knowing she's there but sad she isn't used. I'm really torn about it.

There are a lot of great cars out there. There are not a lot of great opportunities or great girlfriends. This doesn't seem like a hard choice.

Sure is a such lovely car and with a history. Selling that would be like selling a piece of you. It would be really hard for me to let her go. Good luck!!!
