    Canepa C & C / Open House - June '17

As it has been in the past, in April the first of this year's 2nd-Saturday-of-the-month Open House was held at Canepa's. Due to to some health problems I was unable to attend the first and the second (April & May ) of these delightful monthly events, but finally got the all-clear from my cardiologist and determined to make it to the June get-to-gether without fail yesterday ..................and I'm glad I did.

Perfect, cool and dry spring weather, the usual crazy traffic and some scary insane driving on the way to Scotts Valley on Hwy 17, but arriving there and seeing so many having a thoroughly satisfying time and seeing old & new friends and wandering among the invariably fabulous cars made it all worthwhile.

As always, if I can answer specific questions I promise to try to find answers,

    JZG

Starting out with an overview of the Canepa complex and parking areas - already overflowing with visitors even before 8:00 AM.

The Mustang Club arrived en masse and made sure everyone heard their flat-crank GT engines.... just as an old Cadillac 2-door hardtop was leaving out of frustration at not finding anywhere to park his car.

I propose to post the photos pretty much in the order in which I took them while working my way through the various area that are open to the public, starting out in the parking lots which surround the main building.

A few from the showroom and the ever-changing and evolving Museum on the second floor of the main building. The lighting in the showroom is challenging ( to put it mildly ) which is why you'll rarely see good images from there, with severe crowding contributing to a feeling of claustrophobia and getting in everyone else's way complicating the picture-taking.

The 2007 DUCATI Desmosedici RR sits outside of Bruce's office.

The next 4 images are from the museum.

Next to the entrance to the museum is a balcony overlooking the shop area, where I managed to catch the overhead image of the yellow 993. The unusual perspective and the fortuitous lighting make this my favorite image of the entire visit.

Also on display in the Museum is one of the most historic and significant automobiles ever created................a 1954 ex J. M. Fangio multiple race-winning Mercedes-Benz W 196 SLR Grand Prix car in the fully-covered wheels version as used for high-speed circuits such as Monza. The car is the example that was shown at the 'new' Peterson museum as part of the 'Precious Metal' exhibit and is owned by the Indianapolis Speedway Museum, who have asked Canepa to look after it until it can be brought back to its place at the brickyard.

This is a short set of 9 since there was extreme crowding around the car making it difficult to obtain clear shots, and I had to move on.

Another view from the balcony of part of the shop area and a very special treat. A series of images of one of the four 911 R Prototypes............not often one get's a chance to see and shoot such a rare treasure. Unfortunately, I have only one shot of the interior and of the engine shot and they're very blurry, since I shot at way too slow a shutter speed and failed adfjust the camera settings to accommodate conditions......sorry.
