Those aren't Swiss plates rather than German "Customs-Plates". You had to put those on when exporting a car from Germany back in the days.
I assume that the owner picked up the car in Stuttgart by himself and drove it to Bremerhaven to get it shipped to the US.

I remeber those when my dad sold his MB 450 SEL 6.9 in the 70's to someone from the US.

. . . german export plates on this 911 in front of the dealership.
This 911 (1059?) comes directly from Germany as Switzerland does not have this kind of plate-design for export cars.
. . .

. . . aka 'Zoll' plates --- 'used between 1948 and 1988' (?)
