    1973.5 CIS Mixture adjustment

    Hi,

I want to adjust the mixture on my 73.5 CIS injection

but the only book that I have has zero information!

I think there is a hole that you can do this with a allen wrench that is supposed to have a plug in it

when I slide the allen wrench into it does it contact the mixture arm?

and if so which way do I turn it ( the motor sounds rich ) also is there supposed to be a plug is this hole?

Information and education will be much appreciated.

    Thanks, Ron

There usually is a protective plug. Right rich, left lean with a 3mm Allen. With the air filter and cover off and the engine idling, reach in and gently push up on the arm you will see (looks kinda like an elbow) or with your finger in the elbows crook pull down. If engine smooths out pushing up the mixture needs to be richer. If you pull down and engine smooths out it needs to be leaned out. These are the crudest adjustments, and test equipment should be used. There are many adjustments not discussed here, sensor plate drop under pressure, plate centering. System and control pressures. 73 was a first year for the CIS, and many improvements were made over the years to correct the defencies of the early systems. Gordon
