    1965 911 Specifics

I may be going to look at a 300 series 1965 911 for a friend who is considering purchasing.
I am looking to zone in on any websites and any previous 1965 model year specific threads unique differences. Looking for visual references on the bodies and fenders and details.
I want to be able to determine what may be correct and incorrect.
Any references anyone would recommend would be most helpful.
    Thank you in advance.

If it's truly a 300xxx car THIS is the thread you want (and an ongoing huge thanks to Jacques for assembling and maintaining the chart!):

In my opinion, there is no better site than here, and this thread is pretty specific about the early cars:

I'd be a little suspicious of a "genuine" 1965 Porsche 911 if you don't see its Certificate of Authenticity or Kardex. I'd also be suspicious of a car that doesn't have a clear chassis number stamped in the floor of the trunk between the "treasure chest" and the fuel tank on the right side. That number should also be on the center of the dash if you remove the knee pad.

To help judge matching numbers and date stamps, here are some numbers I downloaded from http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...5-66-model-yr!

I do believe this is the first 65 911 I've seen with Boxster Red leather.

Kind of cool in a late 90's kind of way.

Well, it certainly looks like a real '65 but it has some shortcomings beyond the "incorrect" engine.
    • It's missing its Webasto Heater--those were standard on 911s.
    • A 911 should have chromed wheels (painted for 912s)
    • It looks like the windshield washer reservoir is missing. They are rare and expensive.
    • The steering wheel rim looks too thick. That would be hard to do--I could be wrong.
    • It should have the same gearshift knob as a 356C.

    It has many interior problems:
    • It has mid-'68 or later seats with buttons for headrest supports on top of the seat back.
    • I think it has 912 door cards (it's hard to see). 911s had a bulged compartment to the rear of the map pockets.
    • 911s for the first couple years had high leatherette rims around the back seats.
    • Cars with perforated leatherette front seat inserts had perforated leatherette on the back of the front seat but non-perforated leatherette on the back seats (I think). Perforated leatherette switched to basketweave maybe at the end of the '65 model year.
    • Some of the upholstery that's red in this car should be black.
    • It's hard to tell what the carpet is from the photos. Early 911s had "salt and pepper" velour in the people compartment with squarewave (bouclé) in the trunk. 912s had squarewave (bouclé).
