    Bulb kit

Obsessing as usual. Does anybody know what the "box with bulbs" looks like? Is it the same as the Osram kit in this thread? http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...ght=travel+kit

That Osram bulb kit does have the same part number as 901.631.090.30 box with bulbs 12 V -68 which appears on the next page of the parts catalog. That sure suggests to me that it's correct for at least one year.

My understanding is that travel kits could have either Osram or Phillips bulb boxes. You can see some 356 Travel Kits at Eric Cherneff's website: http://www.356tools.com/travelkits/travelkitpics.htm

Prior to the tan bulb boxes, I think they looked like this:

Note that there are two different Osram logos above. I have one with a VW logo.

There were also versions with clear lids:

By the way, before 1958 I think they were metal with a white base and black top.

I'm afraid I can't tell you the exact years of the various changes (except metal to plastic was likely 1958). The best place to shop might be the classifieds at hwww.theSamba.com

Maybe someone smarter at websites than I could join the threads such that the examples already photographed are maintained.

Hopefully the chronology of bulb kits will become somewhat clearer if information is shared. Philips and Osram were used in different boxes it seems. It is probably not so simple to figure out as some markets had different bulb like h4 not legal USA. Also different bulbs were used over time.

Maybe the brands / form of the kit box and how those changed would be a starting point at least. Then how the contents changed for 911 might then be overlayed.

Hmm.. reissued suggests something they have had in the past. This is an example of something I don’t warm to from Porsche. Put lamps and fuses in a printed tin with some foam and charge 5x. On the positive side they are providing a relevant assortment. On the other hand a printed tin is hardly much thought. Possibly I’m more cynical as spare bulb sets h4 are cheap Europe from manufactures of bulbs, roadside assistance companies and just plain cheap sets as law requires to carrying spares box in some countries — maybe less easy to find in USA due to the regulations that outlawed the H4.

While Porsche don’t have to replicate accessories in form used in past a printed tin suggests the marketing and product people “can’t be arsed” to think about it but figured whatever they offered would sell at a whatever price they make up. Maybe Ireland’s Aisling Bea should apply to work but suppose she “just can’t be arsed”:
