Anybody try to "flatten" card board parcel/package shelf?

Wondering if anybody ever try to "flatten" the cardboard backing on a package/parcel shelf liner.? Have a 71 and the cover is real nice, just has a little wave in the rear of it. Have a repro fiberglass molding that goes around rear perimeter and that fits really well. Would rather not pop $500 for a new one if I can figure a way to flatten the cardboard in the back of it to mold nicely into the rear mldg. Any tips/advice appreciated

Yes I took the staples out of the cover and took the board to upholstery shop and bought new board. Traced it ,cut it out and used new leather on it.

+1...that's what I did, but if you insist on re-using the vinyl or leather from your existing board the upholstery shop can re-staple it to the new back.
