Thread: permanent operating noise of new fuel pump => is this normal?

Smile permanent operating noise of new fuel pump => is this normal?

I just finished installing a new fuel pump. Engine is running and the pump is working

Question: The pump (FACET, typ FEP87SV) is working constantly (my pre-installed HARDI pump stopped when the pressure was reached and restarted when the pressure was below a certain value).
This permanent operating noise of the pump is new for me => is it normal for FACET pumps?

The pump should be mounted on rubber isolaters, then it won't be so noisy.

    Ignition on
thump thump thump thump thump thump thump thump
thump thump thump thump thump thump

    etc.

and maybe get rid of that Bosch blue coil or your motor will cut out at high RPM and be extremely sensitive to dwell settings.. If you do replace it you will need to put back the ballast resistor (missing- ceramic bar on 68, metal box on 64-67)

while we are on this photo, that looks like a very early throttle crossbar (from a '66) can you show more?

What are those vacuum ports in the manifolds?

    Nice looking SWB!

    here we are:

Date stamp on the manifold is "67" (would match to the delivery date 3/68 of my car)

The vacuum ports are for the smog pump

    do you mean this one:

This is my current installation (with rubber isolaters on the backside). I did some test driving with up to 5.000 RPM and every thing was fine!

    New to posting here, sorry.

But there should be rubber isolators between the pump bracket and the board itself. Mounted behind the board they won't do much to dampen the pump's noise/vibration.

I should add that the board has its own isolators between the board and the body.
