Seeking Wisdom Again: Latch for Fuel Filler Door Does Not Fit

    Community of Scholars...

I am restoring an aug 1967-built soft window targa. As you can see in the photos, the repop rubber collar that surrounds the filler neck was installed and the fuel door latch mechanism does not clear the top of the rubber collar, which would prevent the latch from releasing the door.

If it matters, the rubber collar is seated as low as it can go, based on the steel and rubber contours.

Does anyone have suggestions? Or other advice? Did I buy the wrong rubber collar? Or is this just another example of a repop being the wrong size?

    All input is appreciated. Thanks.

I've never used a repop collar, but irregardless, I don't think you have the collar in the proper groove of the fuel well. Take out the spring ring and start over.

I have used that repo piece on an Sept build. It fits fine. As Ed mentioned, yours isn't installed correctly yet.

A belated 'thank you' to Ed Mayo and Silverbullit for their help on this. I removed the spring ring and the collar and relocated it properly. Ed's photo was especially helpful.

Again, this demonstrates the incredible value of the Registry and its institutional knowledge.
