    A911/01 transaxle repair

I have (2) 911/01 transaxles that where the clutch cable goes threw the side cover both the holes have been hogged out from the steel outer end of cable sheathing.
If any one has a clutch cable for this transaxle loose could you measure the OD of the cable end where it fits threw the hole. I am thinking I can make a repair part out of steel. Thank you.

Thank you Jim but not really interested in how somebody else repaired there's or spending time on the Internet to to try and find something which I spend way to much time on already when I know how I am going to repair this and just need the outside diameter of the end of the cable sheathing where it goes into the side cover, please.

    It's just short of 15MM.

    Sorry for wasting your time.

Thank you Jim, that's all I needed and I did not spend any time other than writing my response.

There's a factory dimension for the 70/71 sidecover cable hole, if you're interested.

Steve, you asked for a measurement of the cable OD, which Jim provided, but the hole dimension should be 16.5mm (0.650").
This is from the Model 70 Service Information manual, page 52.

So now you have the hole story.

Looks like there is a discrepancy on the size of the hole? 15mm or 16.5mm. Does anyone have a cable for a 70/71 911/01 that could measure the diameter of the metal part that goes threw this hole.
I have a 902/06 aluminum transaxle that the side cover also has the casting with this hole but it measures 12mm, also although it has nothing to do with the size of the hole but the side cover is smaller that the side cover of a 911/01 so a aluminum side cover would not fit a 911/01 which I went to a site provided in this blog that there is a advertisement about a aftermarket for a aluminum transaxle that appearently would not work although it was designed to be able to change the standoff if it wears which is a good idea.

There is no discrepancy at all. It is a 15mm part that slides in a 16.5mm hole. Your 902/06 trans uses a conventional clutch and the hole for the cable is 12mm. Just think, had you ordered the side cover I alluded to earlier in this thread, you would be back on the road . I have seen plenty of "fixes" for 70/71 side plates and most are a joke. I'm sure Jon has seen his share, too. Aluminum side covers from other Porsche transaxles will not interchange with mag case transaxles, period.

    Regards

    Jim
PS: You are getting a lesson in transaxles, so your time is being well spent.
