Question: Stock Headlights on Euro '69-'71 911

I've gotten a pretty good handle on most the headlights used during the longhood era, but I'm still not 100% certain what the standard issue headlights were on '69-'71 Euro cars before H4's were introduced in 1972. I think I know but I would like to hear from others.

    Thanks,
    John

John, you are the "grand master" of these but I was of the belief that the H1 headlight was not legalised for the US until 72 or so. That aside I am not sure if ROW cars were given the US head light as an option from the factory. Why would you want anything else other than H1's.. I love mine

I was aware that H1's were an option during these years as I recall seeing them listed in the accessories booklets. But I didn't realize that they were standard issue on all 911's. What headlights were the 45/40w incandescent bulbs used in?

    Thanks,
    John

So would the H'1s still of been an option when the H4's appeared on the scene, if not would Porsche of run down stocks of H1's and installed into the 72(my) cars?

I don't believe H1 or H4's we're legal in the US, Because they were not seal beams. H5 was first legal replaceable bulb headlight. Correct me if I'm wrong. Gordon

The parts catalogs are pretty clear.

    E_911-1_KATALOG.pdf

Illustration 905-00 (up through -68) shows the H1s starting at chassis numbers 11800226 (coupe) & 11850065 (Targa) for the RoW 911S only. Presumably they were optional on other RoW models which would otherwise get the old "tungsten" headlights.

Illustration 905-05 (69 only) shows the H1s for all RoW 911s and the old "tungsten" headlights for RoW 912s only.

    E_911_73_KATALOG.pdf

Illustration 905-00 shows only H1s for RoW cars and sealed beams for USA cars up through -72.

Illustration 905-05 shows the H4s for all RoW 911s from 72- on.
