Thread: SMD Headlights

    SMD Headlights

Is there a thread on these? A search for "SMD" did not give any results.

I'm looking to put them on my '73, which being a US car, originally came with sealed beam units. I put H-4s on years ago and did not check for relays, not sure if I have them. At some point my headlights became intermittent, since I rarely drive at night, I didn't spend any time troubleshooting. The lights are working OK now.

Now I am looking at putting on the SMDs, which will eliminate any stress I have about not having relays and make me more conformable driving at night. Is there any difference between the ones Stoddard offer and the ones from Pelican?

Is there a downside to having them on my car?

    Thanks.

    Bob...

There's quite of bit of information here if you search on "LED". I offer what I believe are the best of best, JW Speaker 8700 Evolution 2. Made in America, JW Speaker is a big supplier to the U.S. Military. More information at my website:

    http://www.audettecollection.com/leds-for-porsches/

Sierra Madre also offers more reasonably priced LED assemblies with lights from China that I build for them:

    http://www.sierramadrecollection.com...94-p31935.html

In both cases they can be built with either clear or fluted lenses and with chrome, black or primered trim rings.

    Cheers,
    John

Does anyone have any experience with the lights offered by Stoddard or Pelican?

Bob - I can't speak to what Stoddard or Pelican have on offer, but I can speak to what John has. I have his JW Speaker 8700 on one of my cars. They are great. I do a lot of high speed driving in Germany at night and they transformed the trips completely.

Besides, John Audette is great to deal with.

Here's a couple of pictures of how they look with clear glasses. Doesn't look period correct and some will cringe. I don't mind at all. You could always go for fluted lenses if the look bothers you.

    Cheers, M
