Wonder if one of these cars ever turned up for sale? Would be interesting to see the prep.

    Question

It is indicated here that the factory destroyed them...
    Ya'know Peter I don't think so....
I heard a rumor a long time ago that Allan Johnson got'm and put them on his Bozzani Porsche lot in Monrovia at a discount after he took out whatever Ginther put in'm to race.....

Supposedly the orange 6 that Maurice (Topper) Chasse' raced from 'new' until his death 12 years ago (at 77) was one of those cars....

This is what I wrote in 2012... #560:

It would be nice to know for sure....

Great info, Chuck! Surprising there's not more stuff out there on these interesting cars.

Alan Johnson lives close to me, I sent him an email last night and this was his response to what happened to the celebrity race cars. It was great of him to respond, he very much liked the 914/6.

    Alan said:

"As I remember, a couple were given to Bob Bondurant for his Driving School that was run at Ontario at that time. At least one was bought by one of the celebrities that drove in the Celebrity Race, and the rest were bought by the Dealers in the area for a discount.

It's hard to believe today, but the 914-6 did not sell well in 1970 and the last of the inventory at the end of 1970 or the beginning of 1971 was discounted to the Porsche Audi Dealers. I bought 4 or 5 and sold 2 to friends of mine for my cost which was about $4,000"

Looks like they were not destroyed.

Minor reference to the cars at Bondurant here...

    https://bondurant.com/farewell-mr-friend/

Now, on to the next phase of the search...finding the VINs!

No problem, glad Alan was willing to share. For those that do not know about his book DRIVING IN COMPETITION, it helped me. Worth looking for used. It would be great if Alan did another print.
