FS: 911 2,7 RS Ducktail - OEM - Porsche Factory Part

    Dear 911S Registry Members,

I am a petrolhead from Munich, Germany and currently own two very different Porsches. The older one is a 1958 356A T2 Speedster in Meissen Blue and the other one a 1988 Porsche 3,2 Carrera Convertible. I came across your forum, since I recently did a complete clean up of my family's car part storage place and found a part that might be interesting for some of you here.

It is what I believe an original, unrestored 911 2,7 RS rear spoiler in first white paint with red decals. My father owned two 911 2,7 RS back in the late 1980s and had bought the ducktail at that time as a spare part. The spoiler is made out of glass fibre composite with steel inserts to conncet the hinges.

The asking price for the ducktail is 7,500 USD or best offer.

You can contact me at any time for any questions you might have.

    Best regards,
    Moritz

That's a nice piece. Someone will need that or hang it on their wall! First one seen here that looks to be very authentic & fresh......if I had the duckie$, I would buy it!! Best of luck on the likely sale....cliff

I am very familar with the early factory alloy based tails and that does not look like one of those, the area where the latch bolts is all wrong.

Doesn't appear to have the pre drilled holes for the rubber holds either which all factory early ducktail lids did.

If you say it is steel based that may explain it but I am sure the steel ones were similar in build to the alloy ones just made of steel,
others with steel tails will no doubt chime in to confirm or deny my thoughts.

Green is alloy, white is steel, courtesy of Pelican Parts pics I had on file.

Factory tails always had the tubes for rear wipers too ,also missing on the advertised piece.

So many other bits wrong too in my opinion.

I think you may agree this does not look like a factory tail.

In fact I will go out on a limb and say it is not a factory tail (brave and asking to be shot down I know), but I think I am on safe ground.

Sorry for my late reply and thank you for your comments. I have closely looked at the spoiler again and it seems, that at very small spots two different colours beneath the white top colour are visible. One is a light blue metallic and the other one looks like "Vipergreen".

@Clyde: If I understand you correctly, you are saying the pre-drilled holes for the rubber holds are missing. Aren't those also present on my lid, visible in picture 5 from top at the bottom on the sides? Also, which rear wipers do you mean? As far as I know, 2.7 RS normally did not have any rear wipers. The opening for the cable for the number plate lights is present on my lid - also visible in picture 5 from top.

As I said, when I started the thread, I believe that this is an original piece. The presence of the colours beneath the top layer definitely bring up some doubt. The thing that made me quite sure to believe, that the lid is original is the fact, that my father has stored this piece since the 1980s - but maybe they have even produced aftermarket parts back in the days.

Your feedback is very much appreciated.

    Thank you!

Wondering if you could get a magnet to at least check if the frame is steel...

    It is not an original.

I have owned 2 RS cars and purchased 2 original lids at other times.

Look at the pics 5 and 6 which clearly show a non original latch piece which should curved
and be attached to the body of the lid at both ends.(look at the pics of the other original lids I posted)

There were reproductions available in the 70's

    PS

your probably correct about the rear wiper, my mistake, the tube holes appear to
be therefor support bars for the air con if you look at the white lid pic

The tubes are clearly visible on the green lid too

It might be factory, but it has had extensive repairs done.
    Since Clyde posted my pics:
White tail is steel frame, green is aluminum frame, one of the earliest done with fibre mesh not the chopper used on later tails.
