    Help testing turn signal switch

This is from a '71S belonging to a friend. Back in the 80's his original switch was changed out for the one presently in the car. He doesn't remember why it was changed. The one that was put in the car operates everything correctly, but the shape is wrong. Anyone recognize the switch? The problem is the crank in the stalk. When in the standard position, you can't turn the wheel without your fingers brushing up against the stalk. So he drives the car with the stalk in the high-beam position (he doesn't drive at night much at all.) I want to help him correct it. I found his original switch in the trunk, and it looks to be in great condition. Wires are all intact, harness is soft and pliable, the stalk clicks nicely into its three positions, all wires look to be still soldered nicely to the switch. I've never worked on or seen one these before, so before I dive too deep can anyone spot anything obvious that looks wrong from these pics? Is there a testing procedure I can go through to test the electrical function for all the positions? I'm okay with wiring schematics, but an older post or a technical doc on this would be really helpful. Here's some pics of both switches.

That looks like a 74-75 switch in the car now. I've never seen on in a LWB car. Had no idea it would even fit.

    Thanks for the year reference.

Anyone have any tips on testing this?
