The lowest production 911 by year?

According to the Excellence article and other sources, citing Porsche's information, the 1966 model year.

I would say 1964 had the lowest production numbers...

You can tell by 1993 they were close to bancrupty.
No boxster, no SUV, an "outdated" 911 built since 1964 plus a few transaxle models.
A close friend of mine working at that time at Audi design department, under guidance of VW CEO Piech told me recently, back then, the Porsche firm (not Weissach, who was profiteably) had money left for one month.

It is curious why Porsche didn't include the 1964 models.

The cars which were produced in 1964 are modelyear 1965 because they left factory after the summer holidays.

Piech was also the person that saved Porsche from demise by financing the development of the Boxster. Porsche AG had no money left for development. 25 years later they almost bought VW.

By 1993 the the 968 and 928 were just as outdated as the 964 and there was no replacement. Not saying the early boxsters were such amazing high quality cars, but by 1997 it got them volume and out of a very deep financial hole.

Thank you for posting that list!

Welcome. I found it very interesting.

The attraction of the Boxster was its relatively low introductory price point in 1996: $36,000 (I believe)

rumor has it they want to bring a new car in that price range again, since to many people the boxster is not affordable anymore either. Maybe call it an Oxster, boxster w no balls.
