does a 993 cabriolet window fit in a 69 targa

    Hi all,

I needed tinted door glass for my 69 targa. Somebody sold me the glass and I am now in the process of changing the glass and I did notice that the shape is equal except for the length of the glass. The original 69 glass is approximately 0,4" longer.

The seller told me that it should work but I am not sure (can't check it because the car is at the painter). As far as I know the height of the window/frame cannot be adjusted on these early models.

Anybody who can shine a light on this?

    Regards, frank

The shape of the glass is much different at the base between the 2 windows. I certainly don't want to disparage your "seller", but he is full of crap.

I had a 3.2 car with a 993 windshield installed. Lots of people on this bird doing this.

Oops. Didn't see Jim's reply. He'd know better than I on the early cars...

Hi All, thanks for the reply.

Perhaps I was not clear: I am talking about the door windows that roll down and up. The shape or the original glass is equal to the 993 cab glass. The only difference is in the height of the glass. The 993 window is 0,4" shorter so I am wondering whether the window will close completely? As far as I know there is no height adjustment possible in the early window rail.....

Targas have height limit adjusters so that you can control the 'up-stop' since there is no window frame to do so. So,,,,it might work, but I've never tried that glass so can't say.

Hmmm, then I guess I have the wrong frame/windowmechanism. One frame/window mechanism is of the newer type and has a height adjuster. The other (of which I thought to be original) does not have any height adjustment options. This one looks similar to the coupe ones.

Does anybody perhaps have a picture of the correct 69 targa window mechanism?

    Thanks, frank

The height limiter was on the door in early cars. I can get picture tomorrow if no one else has one
