    Little Red Mini

The unassuming little red Mini in John G. outstanding coverage of the Sears Point event, if the real deal, is pretty historically significant... or it could be a car that was prepped by the shop...

However, if it was/is Ed Speen's National Mini....

I had big interest and a small hand helping SCCA sedan racers in the day and Ed Spreen and my friend Jeff Klein had one hell of'a race at the SCCA ARRC (Runoffs) at Road Atlanta in 1970... Jeff in his one season old Otto Zipper sponsored Alfa GTA 1300 Jr. and Ed Speen in his Mini were the class of the field. Jeff lead every lap but the last with Ed less then a second behind... On lap 16 out of 17 Jeff's distributor came loose and Ed won... Jeff DNF'd .....
Jeff in the Alfa came out with fast lap of the race and the class record...

In the results booklet Ed Speen took out a GREAT full page ad for the shop...

BTW- In the results you'll notice the 9th position was won by the 'infamous' Al Consentino in his D-Sedan Fiat ... Mr. FIAT Abarth 'FAZA'....

Coincidentally I had an interesting phone conversation with Jeff today about 911 GT3's .....

    ... and so it goes
