    After 33 years

Nice to see that New Zealand has after 33 years a Formula 1 Driver, being Brendon Hartley.
Although it is a 'seat' for only one race ( US GP ), lets hope that with all going on at Toro Rosso he may get a full time position.

Based on your time reference, I guess the last NZ F1 driver was Mike Thackwell? Of course the most famous were Bruce McLaren, Denny Hulme and Chris Amon.

    Yes Jon,
Mike was the last one we had. He was also one of the youngest to get a F1 seat ( 19 1/2 yrs )and had only 2 races with Tyrrall in 1980. He is my age and lived in my city so we used to cart against each other when we were in our teens.
I caught up with him about 7 years ago in the UK where he is now a publican, pouring brew for the thirsty.
