    Help - Installing a SWB 901 Gearbox into a '69 Car

I have a customer with an early 901 gearbox with the SWB output shafts that he would like to install into a '69T. At first, I thought no problem just install the later '69 compatible output shafts into the gearbox. However, it is apparently not that simple. Do we need to swap a '69 differential into the earlier 901 gearbox? Or do we need to modify the SWB output shafts by welding and machining to accept the '69 CV's?

What is the best approach short of getting a '69 gearbox?

I have a 69 open diff and output shafts on my shelf if that is a solution.

I suspect that a '69 diff from a chill cast Al case '69 gearbox will work. The later, '69 Mag cast gearbox takes a different differential case and bearings.

You can use a diff from a 68 or early chill cast 69 trans. The flanges have to come from a 69 chill cast trans, though.
