    72 S Front Oil Cooler

This cooler looks really good at first glance, but leaks. Fittings are in good shape as is the bracket. however, it has several small perforations from what appears to be salt corrosion. This a crying shame.

    perhaps it can be micro-welded...?

it leaks from the body, or just the fittings? for the price it's worth it for someone to experiment with it!

EDIT - just took a moment with the photos - I see the issue now.

I’d send it to Pacific Oil Cooler Service and have them give you an estimate to repair. You may not like the cost but you will know how the cooler is.

My experience with several attempts at many places tells me that it cannot be fixed

Yeah, I don't think it can be repaired. Was hoping someone might need it for the tabs/brackets or even the fittings (which in theory could be cut off and TIG'd on to another). Would also make a fine clock or hamburger griddle...

As they say on TV, no serious offer refused. Hate to throw this thing away

Painful. I feel for you David.
$3k +/- disappeared before your eyes.

Why it's a gamble to use or purchase any cooler that hasn't been leak tested.

I have 3 dead ones, that hurt so much when pacific oil cooler calls and say they red tagged it. And no pacific oil cooler can’t repair a badly corroded one, I have begged and pleaded for them to give it a shot. There might be a way if someone develops new science but no one has repaired inner core corrosion so far. This is becoming one of the hardest original parts to find in good condition. I got the ones I need for my cars luckily.

Dave I feel your pain ! Bought two from different individuals on this very site where I was at least led to believe the hope of
repairing was good if not great !
Well received the dreaded red tag call on both simultaneously and only felt like a bigger fool when these trusted members all but said well I said may be possible but of course no guarantee !
Guess I should have checked the carefully worded phraseology before pulling the trigger ! Ouch ! Bert
Maybe they can all be welded into a nice museum piece for lost oil pressure memorials ! Haha !

    A coolers tale

Since we are telling our war stories here is mine.
In approx 1976 I got one of the coolers and knew it was corroding. However I had a primo welder who said he could weld anything but if it was corroding it might blow out when we pressured tested it. Sure enough it did . It became a point of honor with him and he welded it about 5 times but it would blow out right in front of his last weld. And this was in 1976 when this cooler was at most 8 years old. Now these coolers could be as old as 48 years.
