    1969-1973 rear sway bar mount?

    I am restoring two 1969 911T.

One car has the rear sway bar mounts and the other car does not?

Was it an option in 1969?

I have new reproductions from Restoration Design for one of the cars. Wondering why the other car is missing them?

Pretty sure The "T" (as the base model) came without sways unless specifically "optioned" or added later after purchase?

Mine did not have them (sways or mounts), and had no mention of them on the kardex

You are lucky with a 1969, you can get a kardex to tell you exactly how your car(s) left the factory

It will answer a lot of questions and will tell you exactly what you may have...

this is what was left after we sandblasted an original paint car.

It could have very well been added at some point however. I just dont know what to look for to see if it was.

That mount was surely added by a PO and an idiot.
A shockingly large number of 911s were not equipped with sway bars.
71 - 73 cars came with a left rear mount as part of the fuel pump mount
Whether they had a rear bar or not

welding looks like it was done by gas welding
factory weld was MIG around the center hole and 3 or 4 short weld seams on the circumference.

those two screws where used to hold it in position i assume.

    thanks guys.

I have removed them for the metal work.

i have decided to add the new reproduction mounts for the addition of the rear bar. (hot rod)

Anything i need to consider in positioning them correctly?

Make sure that you use the "updated" mount or better yet, mounts provided by Elephant Racing. The original mounts fail all the time, especially when stiffer bars are used.

    I agree with Jim.
There is a reason that they were "updated"....Elephant are even better.
The mounts take a lot of abuse especially with bigger bars. I have seen many cracked ones even on street cars with stock sway bars.

When we used to put on new mounts at the dealership, we assemble the bar with them bolted on with bushings and control arms hooked up and then tack for proper alignment.
You would be surprised at how many are welded on crooked just to have them removed and repositioned when the sway bar is added...
Unless the new generation of welders magically can line them up by eye......

    Excellent tip!

I bought all my metal and the mounts from restoration design. I would like to think the mounts will suffice?
