1973 Radio Delete Dash Trim 1 or 2 pieces?

The '73 911 I'm working on is a radio delete car that currently has a Becker Mexico in it. Once I've pulled the radio I'll have a hole in the dash to cover. Do I use one entire new piece of vinyl that goes L to R from the steering column to the glove box door (length 1) or do I use a new piece that only covers the area starting at the heat controls and radio that goes to the glove box door (length 2)?

Once I have that figured out, did Porsche make a backing plate for the aluminum trim so that the vinyl doesn't droop into cavity? I don't see it listed in the parts diagram.

The delete plate was a single part, that only covers the radio section (length 1).
The steel plate, that you mean, is part of part 15.

    Dirk and Moito,

So I need #15 and then I also need a piece of vinyl to cover this aluminum piece, correct?

Does anyone (Marek?) make this individual piece of aluminum? Does anyone do a proper match to the original strip of vinyl I have from the steering column to the radio? Maybe I should use a piece of door panel???

    Thanks guys.

    Zombie,

Thanks for the link. I'll get one of those. Do I wrap the metal piece in vinyl or do I simply paste it over top?

I want to go from this:

to this. Is the pic below done properly? Who has vinyl that will best match the original pieces in the car?

I did not wrap over any edge. I cut it very close to fit the plate minus a bit on top and bottom to allow for the recess. and used contact cement to glue it down. Once I had the fabric on I had to bend the plate to get it to go behind the recess. Maybe you can slide it with glovebox open? It came out really well. When you take your current radio and plate out I think it will also show that fabric is not wrapped.

Your radio looks like correct timeframe for a 73....curious about your radio delete....does your COA specifically say radio delete on it? Because I could be wrong but I thought in US a lot of radios were installed at the dealer.

Not sure who has the best black material like yours....i had the basketweave....maybe stoddard.com? Others should know.

will have a look in my stash later this week if i have material for you...
as far as i remember it`s paste not wrap...but i would not bet on it.especially when seeing your pic above showing a wrap on the right side.
edit:the basket waeve pic that was posted whilst i was writing this looks correct...now i`ll bet on it(even when the basket weave material does not look correct)
