Help-Tracking Original Dealer for my ‘70E

I am in the process of trying to track the ownership history of my 1970E. I am in the process of restoring the car and have the COA and the factory build sheet. I would like to identify the original dealer and owner.

    Any suggestions?

I'd start by going to the DMV of the state where this car was last registered. Get a copy of whatever history abstract that they have. If the car came from out-of-state, then you should be able to find out where from + when. Then go to that next state's DMV, and the next, etc, etc --- try to get as close to 1970 as you can. At the very least, you'll get some history

Next, I'd look on the car for anything with a business name on it --- oil change stickers, paperwork in the glove box (or under the seat), key fob . . . I had one o' those. Doesn't have to be auto-related --- just something to indicate a place the car's been

Try to interview any POs that turn-up in your DMV abstracts --- see what details they might have

If you can zero-in on a state + date --- maybe a city? . . . then you might at least narrow-down the potential dealers

The DMV is a good suggestion. Very painful but worth a try. I did track down an interim owner who had the car up until 1995. Turned out he lives 10minutes from me. I going to have him come visit hoping it will jog his memory.

Anyone who owned one of these cars 20-some years ago is prolly more than a casual operator

And good luck with your search . . .
