    Ash Tray Repair

So I am starting to look over the recently purchased 911S. Overall its fairly original, except for the inside. A prior owner decided back in the day to add a better/bigger radio. They decided to cut out some of the ashtray area and made the ashtray into a dummy by fixing the front edge. I can't tell what exactly they cut out or what is let can hold an ashtray.

So the question is what do I do now? Any suggestions on how/if I can restore this? The photo is looking up from under the dash. The circles show where they cut out some metal.

    Thanks

Buy the area from a Porsche dismantler.
Trim it yourself or have a body shop fit it and weld it in.

As Rory said, not a hard fix especially if your pulling the car apart anyway. The dash on our car was all hacked up and we had some pieces welded in also. Shouldn't be too hard to find a donor as not usually an area that rusts out.

Here are some pics of the ash tray mount. Back in the day, it was very common for us to cut that area out of a chassis for the repair you are doing. Unfortunately, back in the 80s and 90s chopping out the ash tray mount to install a "graphic equalizer" was the thing to do.

I found it a handy place to mount some additional gauges.
