Headlight lenses fogging

Looking for some help...

Every once in a while I come across a headlight with a slight bit of “foginess” on the inside of the lenses. This happened most recently to an NOS Marchal SEV Amplilux Headlight that I bought. A bit of a puzzle as the area behind the lenses is not sealed and air circulates freely.

I’m wondering if anyone has successfully cleared this fog and what method was used. The concern is doing something that might damage the reflector. Compressed air? Schlossing around liquid, such as water, cleaner, etc? The holes for the bulbs generally don’t give much room for maneuvering as far as wiping with Q-tips or somesuch.

I cleaned out a set H5’s off an SC that sound as u are describing. Used an ultra sonic parts cleaner worked great. Still look good after 8 years.

John I did this on my 964 lenses same thing not good access so I took a wooden dowel rod and wrapped some paper towels in a ball and taped it to the end of the rod then just sprayed windex on the ball as needed. Use the thinnest/strongest rod you can for more room to maneuver inside.

Hi John, I bought several sets of NOS yellow Amplilux about 15 years ago, they all had that "fog" probably just film from sitting on a shelf (even boxed). I used Pre Kleano on a couple of sets, splashed some in and drained it out with good results. No wiping needed. The last couple of sets (including a pair sold here) I used denatured alcohol, same effect but did need to stick a detail brush in to get a few spots. FWIW, Pre Kleano is one of those wonder liquids that's great for much more than prep for paint, takes off minor marks on vinyl and rubber trim, cleaning plastics, etc. Hope this helps.
