    65/66 help

I've been sent some parts to restore. There off a late 65 or early 66. It looks like the car got a electrical fuel pump and a CD box from Grand Junction, Colorado. I need some input from the 65/66 experts. Replace the fuel pump and the CD box? I'm going to restore this for a client. What advise do I give him.
    Thanks, Chris

My opinion : Lose the aftermarket CD box and use NGK iridium spark plugs . Be sure the relay to bypass the ballast resistor when the starter is activated is working . If the coil is bad , use the Bosch red coil made for a 1.8 ohm ballast resistor and paint it black . If everything is working , the car will run as well as ever . I've done this on numerous cars , and also won a bet , making a car run well with original style components . Someone in Australia sells a Facet fuel pump very similar to the original . An electric fuel pump is stock .

I agree with Richy, but I think the pump would be Bendix style.

I believe that’s what Richy was saying. It’s a facet pump in the Bendix style with a Bendix sticker on it.

The Delta CD may be aftermarket but it was recommended by Porsche early on.There is one in my 66. Why not irridium plugs with a CD?

My '65 had a Permatune mounted on the firewall (way behind the air cleaners and super hard to see) when I got it in 1997 and I haven't bothered getting rid of it. As I said, it's hard to see.

Your existing fuel pump looks very wrong though. I'd definitely replace it with a real Bendix or something that looks so much like a Bendix few can tell it's "wrong." There are many sources of Bendix fuel pump stickers; I got a spare from Rolly Rezos at the Lit Meet Saturday.

By the way, you can get a lot of the fuel system plumbing from Brad Davis at HBD Products <www.911Rennen.com>. He also has replacement oil lines for the center-lubricated cams (last used on engine 903069, circa November 1965).

One advantage of the "real" Bendix pump is that when the clicking slows down you know the float bowls are full and you're ready to start the car (or at least attempt to start the car if you have Solexes and need the mechanical pump to actually get fuel into the carbs).
