    911T engine details

    I’m currently in the process of cleaning up and detailing the engine in my ‘70 911T and am trying to make sure all the bolt on bits are the correct color for the year/model. The car is fairly unmolested #’s matching example but when the engine was out for a rebuild at one time someone painted the shroud as well as a few other bits so I wanna make it look proper again.
    My areas of concern are...
    What color should the
    -intakes be?
    -valve covers?
    -fan shroud (semi gloss or matte?)
    -should the oil cooler duct on the shroud be black or gray?

    Intakes - black , valve covers - magnesium no paint , fan shroud - black fiberglass more matte than semi gloss , oil cooler duct - grey . No decal or sticker on the coil or the coil bracket .

    I believe upper valve covers were black, here is a factory picture Circa 1970.

    Thanks guys,
    Are intakes and valve covers supposed to be matte, semi gloss or gloss black? Compared to the engine surround tin they look more dull.

    Your engine shroud should be black underneath the yellow paint - if your engine shroud is original. Engine shrouds were made of various coloured gel coat: The 911S shrouds are red gel coat, the 911E are green gel coat, and the 911T engines are black gel coat. In 1972 the 911T MFI engine shrouds were yellow. Your 2,2T engine shroud should be black. See if you can peel off the yellow to see if yours was painted yellow. If so, the yellow paint should come right off and you can clean up the original black gel coat underneath with some type of polishing compound.

    Yes, I’m in the process of stripping the paint off the shroud to get back to the original black.

    Pretty sure the correct fan shroud for MY 69 did not have an oil cooler duct.
