First time posters...should I be concerned??

Looking for the Forum's collective wisdom from real experience. I placed a FS ad yesterday for my 72T engine that has yielded two responses on this forum (taking me up on my offer to send a video to their email) from people with ONE post. Scam alert, or no risk to reply to their email from my email?? Thank you

I noted those posts. The only way someone brand new can communicate is via Email or phone as you must post something like ten times for PMs to be activated. Trust but verify and be careful out there.

Sorry mac73s to scare you. I actually came across this post in trying to find a way to help establish my "credentials" in a proper manner. I tried to PM but like they said I am new to the forum and don't have rights to PM yet. I am game for whatever the collective forum recommends to give you some comfort, but like you I was also a little fearful in putting my information out there in a post. I am not sure how to provide proof but I am a 73 911T owner (as of January) and a paid registry member.

In regard to a scammer with absolutely no history or cred acquiring a video of an engine running and conning a buyer, what buyer would be so stupid? If you're going to buy a supposed healthy, running engine from an unknown source it's easy to perform due diligence; have it inspected and evaluated by a reputable third party first.

Now buying from a credible source? (Which mac73s is! And I will personally guarantee that.) That's a different sitch.

I can tell you from personal experience I trusted a member here a couple of years ago and purchased a core motor from him. Unfortunately Ed sold me a motor that had severe water damage and he refused to do anything about it. Perhaps naively it never occurred to me that a member would trash his reputation here. I got hosed and will never do biz with Ed again. Hopefully others will be warned as well. (I wonder if the early 911 starter he recently advertised here but sold "locally" was also water filled?)

"Trust but verify" is always wise and risk is usually pretty easy to evaluate. But obviously there are exceptions.
