    72 911 - headlight bucket removal??

    I need to remove and repair the headlight bucket that fits into the fender...is the bucket a tight 'press fit, or something more involved? P.S. the bolt that secures the bottom of the bucket to the bracket on the battery box has been removed. Thank you.

    I'm no body guy and I don't have these anymore, one is 901 and one is 911, I hope picture might be of any help.

    Gled49 and Ed - thank you both. Ed - I don't see any obvious spot welds from the outside...do you know if they were done from the inside? Thank you!

    Was looking for some 'tack' welds...found the spot welds on the inside perimeter of the bucket...here I go!

    Just a few minutes to remove the old bucket with all its less than glorious repairs from the past...fiberglass and some strapping to replace rusted headlamp frame attaching mounts. Would have been a lot quicker and quality repair to have done it right in the beginning. It is getting the love now it deserves, and fortunately the fender is solid.

    Keep in mind that the critical part of installing these buckets is to maintain adequate gap to the fender to allow for the rubber seal and still be able to clip the headlight ring onto the mounting tabs. Do it wrong and you won't get both the seal and the headlight ring installed. You can approximate the factory spot welding by using mig plug welds.

    Ed - thank you, and yes...mig plug welds was going to be my approach. Fortunately I have the other fender to use as a guide in fitting the new bucket, and will still make just two tac welds to hold it in place and check fitment...thank you!
