    Original 915 Shift Knob Repair

I have an original 915 bakelite shift knob that has a hairline crack in it otherwise it is in nice shape. The crack is all the way through and must have happened when removed, can this be repaired?

Yes. Use the adhesive of your choice. I've used West Systems two part epoxy and JB Weld on bakelite. Tape off the area around the crack. Use a hair dryer or heat gun and heat the bakelite to very warm almost hot. At the same time heating your mixed adhesive to the point of almost liquid. I mix the glue on a metal scraper or putty knife. The metal holds the heat and keeps the glue loose. You want everything very warm. Then slowly drip the glue along the crack the heat will leech the liquid glue deep into the crack. Drip off the corner of the metal that way you have some control over the flow. When the crack is filled. Let cool/cure and sand of flush. You should be good to go.
