    Original carpeting for a 1966 911

Searched the forum threads- what was the standard interior carpet offering for a 1966 911?

My 66 has a black almost plush velour style which I doubt is original, but not sure. An upgrade from the Perlon?

If it helps the truck has the original German square-weave.

Square weave is correct for trunk. 66 911 interior used black wool velour (also called harrigan?) carpet. All popular suppliers, Autos International, Autobahn, etc) sell it in pre-cut kits. There's also a German supplier, search. There could be subtle differences. I've removed several SWB 911 original carpets and IMO the original had more lighter-colored strands in the carpet, making it appear grayer that what's currently available. IMO, what they sell now is what was used in the upscale LWB 911s. But I've been told "it's all the same." Here's a photo of an original carpet taken from a 66 911, with a sample of black wool velour, the stuff being sold as "correct" for 65-66.

This Porsche brochure shows that 911s had velour carpets and 912s had bouclé [squareweave] carpets.

Those are actually for the '66 model year but the carpets would have been the same. Original trunk carpeting was squareweave.

You can download a copy from https://www.porsche.com/internationa...ourcharts911f/

I got my carpets from Autos International 20 years ago and the carpet they had then had more while/silver/light grey threads than the carpeting one sees in many recent restorations.
