Yikes. Own a piece of history, just not clear what that history might be though we can assume MM wasn't involved. The fan isn't painted red.

Looks like the same hieroglyphics that those guys saw in the 60's on that UFO that landed that night in the forest.
    and
I am about as wary of engine numbers like these as I am about guys who hang out at night in forests.

Just out of curiosity, who is MM? My ex-US car has a fan painted red.
I can't help getting a strange feeling of sudden uncomfyness rising...

Sorry tomster, didn't mean to cause anyone discomfort. MM referred to MotorMeister and though red fans were sort of their "trademark",
it's fair to say the fashion was adopted by others. As to the company and reputation, here's a small taste:

Perhaps - "MotorMeister" , the infamous / notorious engine rebuilder from the LA area ?
If your motor has lasted more than 10 hours you can be reasonably comfortable MotorMeister didn't work on it.
    Just sayin'

    Thanks guys,
NOW I do feel much better. Well, not...
I did some research on their name/ work. From what I could find I'd say chances are pretty high that MM had their hands on my engine.
What I would have called a rather unmotivated MFI->Carb conversion just until yesterday, could most probably now prove as one of MM's infamous "racing conversion masterpieces": fan, air filter and valve covers painted red, some ridiculous "flex" ignition cables and MFD ignition control box with state-of-the-art insulation tape wiring (lots of).
I was kinda wondering ever since I bought the car though why the "experts" working on my engine did spend quite some effort on the heater delete. The blower ducts left and right of the fan were weld-sealed and the holes for the hoses l+r in the engine tin and where the heater control boxes would sit were also obturated quite nicely.
OK, riveting the fuel filter/ fuel line clamps to the bulkhead of the parcel shelf would not have been my way to go but then again what do I know of "proper" US MFI->carb conversions anyway.

Though the engine (surpringsingly) runs quite nicely I should seriously consider preponing the engine rebuild...
