    Mystery Green Wire

    Hey folks,

I have been working a remake of a harness for a 67. During that process I have come across a Green wire that enters the harness in the same position as where the Green/Black ( which is for the Oil temperature sender) enters the harness. The Green/Black wire is separately sheathed and so is the Green wire The wire enters the larger trunk of the harness and follows the Green/Black all the way to the large combination instrument. (#25 on a wiring diagram). But I can't find this wire anywhere on a diagram. Also, I have 2 harnesses out of 67s and the wire is present on each of the harnesses.

The only green wire I see in the whole harness is the one for the fuel sending unit, and that is on the complete opposite end of the car.

Any ideas? Maybe something for a European car?

I believe that is for a sporto.

I was thinking the Sporto started in 68. These are both 67 harnesses.

I suspect Porsche may have started with the wiring change earlier in anticipation of the sporto usage.

“Spare” green wire in every through body harness from ‘67 to ‘83.
From Dash gauge area to rear engine area on early cars, rear 14 pin connectors in later years.
Used for Sporto as Ed mentioned.

Thanks for the input. Just curious. Do you include it in the harnesses you build? Or is that a question that gets asked of the owner if they want it?

I include it. Never know when someone wants to add a circuit or has a wire get cut. Nice to have a spare in place.
