    Fuchs wheels markings

Why do some fuchs have stamps and some the part numbers as part of the forgings?

They are definately both original fuchs wheels from Jan 1973

The late six stamp....as we like to call it. Initially, I thought it was a stop gap measure when Fuchs changed from the early 6 to the late 6 in 1/71 or so.... (That is when I first saw the stamp)
After reviewing the wheels and records, the stamps seem to be put on the wheels more if the forging marks are ground off or other wise illegible.
The center forging tooling is the same for all late wheels and sometimes the insert part numbers are off. I have seen a 7x16 marked 7X15 and so on.
So some markings are ground off an there still needs to be some identifier so the stamp was used....
And there was more than one finisher. I have found numbers ground off early 6s that have the same date as some with the numbers left on.
These markings were never meant for the restorers to use as gospel 40 years later.....I can imagine an old German laughing right now.......
