SWB : Maximum wheel 15" width possible

    Greetings all,
    2 questions, please:

What is the maximum 15" wheel width for a 1968 SWB road wheel/drive setup (géométrie)?
What were the factory delivered Fuchs wheel size for a 911L 1968 USA SWB ? And tires ?

    Cheers
    X

    I pretty sure 5 1/2 was original. 7R's fit and I've seen Carrera 7's on 911L's.

From Information Regarding Porsche Vehicles Used For Sports Purposes, W351e

    5.5" rims
The 5 1/2" rim is fitted as standard, starting with the 1968 model. With the 5 1/2" rim a track of 1367 mm (53.82mm) at the front and 1339mm (52.72") at the rear has been type-standardized and homologated.

    6" rims
For the 6" rim a track of 1379mm (54.29") at the front and 1351 mm (53.19") at the rear is homologated.

When fitting these rims one should make certain that there is at least 10 mm (0.394") clearance in all positions between wheel and wheel arch. (Check steering lock at the front and compression of springs!)

When installing, longer wheel bolts (901.331.671.00, 52mm, for Model A, Rear hub, 901.331.065.07) must be used.

Spacer, for vehicles starting with Model A ('68):
    0mm front (ie. no spacer)
    0mm rear (ie. no spacer)
Spacer, for vehicles up to Model A ('68):
    7 mm front (0.276")
    7 mm rear (0.276")

    7" rims (901.361.012.05)
For the 911T, 911S and 911L (in Group 5) the 7" rim has been homologated and approved for use on the rear wheels. With this equipment the vehicles have a rear track of 1365 mm (53.74"). For the 7" rim, 27mm (1.063") spacers (901.352.413.01) and longer wheel bolts (77mm, 901.331.671.01) must be used.

Jimmy I have 6x15 Fuchs on my 66 912. Stock wheel studs left plenty of length for full thread engagement w alloy lug nuts.

I guess Jimmy copy the exact text out of the doc.

And thanks for the information :-)

Thank you for adding a real world data point.

Xavier is correct. My earlier post was an excerpt from the document which documents the stock & race-legal parts available for 1968, with the addition of some part numbers for clarity and specificity. To clarify the 6" rim stud section of my post, I added additional excerpted information which included the 7mm wheel spacers for vehicles which required the spacers and longer studs to achieve the homologated wider track.
