    Print date is not mentioned.
But there is a (rare) postcard with similar pic and the same pics with a lady, now in a „photoshopped“ green car is reused for 1967/68 too. (both Items I also have)
The literature book by Miller from 1983 already lists above item as 1966.

Dont be fooled by the pictures, pretty common they used older pics from proto-cars.
Since the 912 was introduced very late in 1965 Model Year, there is a possibility it was in use for May-July 1965. But pretty shure it was printed for 1966 Model Year, when full promotion on the 912 started. The Color chart I have going with above item is printed 5/65, to be ready for 1966, as are accessories chart.

Dont want to hijack your thread and good luck w the sale.

Neither my copy of this brochure nor any other Porsche of America brochure in my collection has a print date.

Here's my favorite photo reuse in an October 1964 brochure:

They retouched the photo to remove "901" from the glovebox door.

What "Miller" book are you referring to? I'm familiar with the Miller & Merritt book on 356 literature but I haven't seen anything by these author(s) on 911 literature.

Keep in mind, most early literature was printed in spring, using older pics since the new Model Year was not yet available for pictures. There are dozens of examples, usually updating pics or simply showing „older“ ones.

This below is the book I quoted.
It does has a few faults in it, does not list everything, but mostly its spot on.

And here variations on the same theme, each year updated.
The only common thing is the pretty lady waving in..
Check how trim was added and also script.
All are dated, exept (ultra rare) postcard.

As an add on, this below is true 1965 Model year literature, for US market only. (There is more for ROW).

Note how the postcard above has an 1965 equivalent, picturing a red 901 in a harbor.
The „Temporary Accessory list“ is dated 12.64 (earlist known list for US market so far..), Dealer list is „Spring 1965“, red brochure is the earliest known for 1965 (probably 1/65), quoting inside „Our type 911/2000“. Road and Track is March 1965, testing then what is still an 901.
(The car belongs to a registry member). All items show 901 only.
Ps: until May 1965, for all 901/911 the third edition of a 356 color chart was used.
The first true 911 Color chart is pictures below, printed 5/65.

First, you are not hijacking my thread, as this brochure sold really quickly. I just checked my early 901/911/912 lit and I don't have a copy of that one. Now I wish I hadn't sold it! --- UGH!

Anyway, I am the OVR/PCA Historian, and I really enjoy discussions of the early 901/911/912 cars and subsequent literature. I also have a pretty good collection of early 901, 911, and 912 literature and have most of the above and more. My earliest Porsche-printed 912 Sales Brochure is dated 4.65. My earliest Porsche Printed 911 Sales Brochure is W221 e, dated Jan 65.

I sold the piece that has generated this discussion, but I did save the photos thereof. The brochure mentions the 2-nd place in-class finish of Peter Falk and Herbert Lingein their number 147 Porsche 911 in the January 1965 Monte Carlo Rally. So the brochure date is certainly after January 1965. The Porsche printed 912 Sales Brochure dated 4.65, would contradict late year 1965 912 introduction as valid. I suspect there may be earlier brochures.

In my opinion, the brochure text may be the best clue. (see below) Clearly, the brochure identifies the 911 as the newly introduced model. It describes the new 2.0L flat-6 and the newly developed 5-speed. The Porsche 911 wasn't new in 1966, it was new in very early 1965.

It can also be seen in the brochure that the single exhaust 911 doesn't have a '911' script on the engine compartment lid. I think (this is my opinion) that the engine lid script was first applied to the model 912 to show differentiation from the 911. None of my early 1965 911's (300594, 300839) have nor had that script but number 301258 did have it. I'm not sure about my early 1965 Porsche 912 (350407) though.

I do think this is the wrong place for this discussion and If I could, I would move this thread to a discussion forum on this board.

Well, I agree. Since it covers the 912, its definitely 5.65, as its accompanying Color Chart printing date.
The pic was re-used in 1967 and again 1968, cant imagine it was not also used for 1966.
    „True“ 1965 MY covers 911 only.
